Looking forward to iPhone software 2.0
There has been so much talk in the last few weeks about a new 3G iPhone being released along with software 2.0 in June, that my head is spinning. No one knows exactly when Apple will release a new version of the infamous iPhone. But until then, speculation can be oh so much fun yet exhausting.
While the prospect of a newer iPhone is great, I’m more excited about software 2.0. This new software will enable iPhone users to download third party software supported by Apple. Now, some users are already using third party software by “jailbreaking” their phones. I for one am too chicken to do this, for fear of messing up my phone.
However, I’m doing well with some of the Apple supported web applications and the native applications in the current iPhone OS. Two of my favorite web apps are:
- Hahlo: A really nice Twitter web application. If you love to Twitter, this really comes in handy.
- JiveTalk: Allows you to instant message from such well known services as AIM, Google Talk, Yahoo and ICQ. It’s really a great application.
When 2.0 is released, I’m really looking forward to the native AIM application announced during the Apple March 6th Event. In addition, the iPhone will support Microsoft Exchange Server. That feature alone will hopefully attract BlackBerry and Windows Mobile users. I will also be interested to see a host of other Apple supported apps such as games. So until June, keep the speculations and the wishlists coming. ![]()
